|Diamond mining company De Beers reports diamond production for the third quarter of 2016 increased by four percent to 6.3 million carats compared with the third quarter of 2015 when production was reduced in response to prevailing trading conditions.
The company notes that full year production guidance for 2016 remains unchanged at 26-28 million carats, subject to trading conditions.
Giving a breakdown of the production, De Beers reports:
% change Y-o-Y
4.5 million carats
De Beers Consolidated Mines (S. Africa)
Namdeb Holdings (Namibia)
De Beers Canada
* The decrease was due to Snap Lake Mine being placed on care and maintenance in December 2015. This was partially offset by first production at Gahcho Kué Mine.
Consolidated rough diamond sales for Q3 2016 are reported at 5.3 million carats, an increase of 77 percent compared with Q3 2015, which De Beers says reflects improved trading conditions when compared with the third quarter of 2015.
