|The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) will be hosting its Mines to Market 2017 conference on March 19 and 20, 2017 at Hotel Grand Hyatt in Mumbai, India.
The Mines to Market conference aims to bring together on a single platform various segments of the international diamond pipeline and other stakeholders, including miners, diamantaires, retailers, bankers and analysts, to discuss the supply and demand issues faced by the global diamond Industry.
Senior Indian government officials will be taking part in the conference, including Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman.
The GJEPC confirms that several Mining Ministers of major rough diamond producing countries, including South Africa, Central Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and others, will also be taking part in the conference.
Commenting on the forthcoming event, GJEPC Chairman Praveenshankar Pandya says, "India is the largest cut and polished diamond manufacturer in the world. Ninety-three per cent of its production is exported. As a major player in the world market, I believe it is our responsibility - and I take pride in it - to organise this event wherein we bring together all the stakeholders from the world diamond industry on a single platform to discuss various challenges faced by the industry and come out with a future road map."
The conference will cover all segments of the diamond pipeline including mining, manufacturing, and retail, with GJEPC's Vice Chairman Russell Mehta presenting an overview of the Indian Diamond Industry at the Inaugural Session.
The Mining session panelists will include Namibia's Diamond Commissioner Kennedy Hamutenya; Dominion Diamond Corporation Executive Vice President Jim Pounds, and others.
The session on Midstream will see speakers and panelists deliberating on the topic "Survival in the Absence of Growth". Participants for the session include Maujibhai Patel, Managing Director, Kiran Gems. Pvt. Ltd; Stephane Fischler, President, Antwerp World Diamond Centre; Ernest Blom, President, World Federation of Diamond Bourses; Sanjay Kothari, Vice Chairman, KGK Group of Companies; and Ghanshyam Dholakia, Managing Director, Harikrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. The Session will be moderated by renowned analyst Des Kilalea.
The Marketing and Retail session topic is "Innovation in Stagflation". Speakers and panelists for the session include Oded Edelman, Jamesallen.com; David A. Bouffard, VP, Signet Corporate Affairs; Jean-Marc Lieberherr, CEO, Diamond Producers Association; Sandeep Kulhalli, VP, Marketing & Retail, Tanishq.
Expert views on "New Realities of Diamond Financing" will be covered in the International Finance session, with speakers and panelists including representatives from Reserve Bank of India, Singapore Investment Diamond Exchange, SBI, IndusInd Bank.
A panel discussion on the subject "Valuation with Kimberley Process" will be moderated by Mark Van Bockstael, Chair of the Kimberley Process' Working Group of Diamond Experts. Panel participants include De Beers Head of Government and Industry Relations Feriel Zarouki, GJEPC Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray, Dubai Diamond Exchange Chairman Peter Meeus, and others.
The conference will also address the topic of Diamond Certification, with speakers and panelists including Gemmological Institute of America Executive VP & Chief Laboratory and Research officer Tom Moses; International Gemmological Insyitute co-CEO Marc Brauner; HRD Antwerp's Diamond Lab & Research Chief Officer Ans Anthonis, and others.The two-day conference will close with a presentation by the Conference Moderator Chaim Even-Zohar on the "Impact of Synthetics on the Natural Diamond Industry", and a presentation by representatives of the Bonas Group entitled "Preventing Undisclosed Mixing in Diamond Industry".
