|Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (Mountain Province) has published production results for the Gahcho Kué diamond mine in Canada's Northwest Territories for the second quarter (Q2) ended June 30, 2017. Mountain Province is a 49-percent participant in the mine with De Beers Canada.
The company reports that 1.614 million carats were recovered in Q2, which was the mine's first full quarter of commercial production. Mountain Province's share of the production was approximately 791,000 carats.
The average grade recovered from the processed ore in Q2 was approximately 2.10 carats per tonne. The mine's diamond processing plant reportedly averaged 8,618 tonnes of kimberlite processed per day, and 8,977 tonnes per day over the most recent two months of May and June, which the company notes is in excess of its nameplate capacity of 8,226 tonnes per day.
Commenting on the results, the company's Interim President and CEO David Whittle remarked that, "Given the strong plant performance and our favourable grade experience to date, we remain confident we will meet or exceed our full-year 2017 production guidance."The company's full-year production guidance for 2017 is 4.4 million carats.
