|The De Beers Group of Companies has published the provisional results of the sixth sales cycle of 2017 of De Beers' rough diamond sales (Global Sightholder Sales and Auction Sales), which totaled US$572 million, compared with US$541 million in cycle 5. This is an improvement of 8 percent compared with 2016's cycle 6 sales of US$528 million.
Commenting on the results, De Beers CEO Bruce Cleaver says: "The sixth sales cycle of the year maintained the trend of consistently good demand for De Beers rough diamonds across the product range."With Diwali being earlier than normal in 2017, we saw some demand from Indian diamantaires pulled forward from Sight 7. This was due to these customers needing to make rough diamond purchases in sufficient time to complete their polishing before the holiday begins."
