GIA'S SECOND GEMOLOGICAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE POSTPONED
08 December 2008

The Second Gemological Research Conference (GRC), scheduled for August 21-23, 2009, in San Diego, California., and hosted by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), has been postponed pending improvements in the current economic situation. The serious downturn in the global economy has led GIA to reconsider the timing of the GRC, and the decision has been made to not hold the conference next summer.

"Taking this action is especially difficult considering the enthusiasm and synergy that so many people have contributed to the planning of the event. However, the success of the conference is dependent on attracting participants from diverse backgrounds and geographic areas, and the current economic climate has created significant budget and travel restrictions for many. Thus, GIA believes it is in everyone's best interest to hold the conference at a more favorable time. GIA greatly appreciates all of the ideas and energy that have been contributed to the 2009 GRC. We look forward to the time when we can put our GRC plans back into action," explains Brendan Laurs, GRC Co-chair.
