When Hollywood musical production NINE, directed by Rob Marshall, will hit movie theaters this November, moviegoers will not only be dazzled by the acting, singing and dancing of its main characters, but also by the Swarovski crystals used in the costumes. The film's Academy Award-winning costume designer, Colleen Atwood, is collaborating with Swarovski on NINE to create a show-stopping spectacle that will display over 1 million CRYSTALLIZEDTM - Swarovski Elements to embellish the costumes of the all-star cast, which includes Hollywood actresses and actor Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Stacy Ferguson, and Daniel Day-Lewis. Nadja Swarovski, Vice President of International Communication says, "Swarovski is thrilled to have collaborated with Colleen Atwood on the show-stopping costumes of NINE. It is an honour for the outstanding cast to be embellished with our crystal and Colleen's artistry as a costume designer is perfectly showcased in these sparkling creations." Crystal adorns 36 costumes including a crystal mesh dress worn by Kate Hudson, a basque worn by Penélope Cruz, an evening dress worn by Nicole Kidman and 25 showgirl outfits in the Folies Bergeres number. The dazzling costumes feature nine different crystal applications in 31 styles and 22 various colors. "Swarovski has given me great support with the finest crystal materials in the world to help create the costumes in NINE," says the film's costume designer, Colleen Atwood. The movie follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife, his mistress, his film star muse, his confidant and costume designer, a young American fashion journalist, the whore from his youth and his mother. The upcoming movie is based on the 1982 Broadway production, which was nominated for twelve Tony Awards and won five, including Best Musical. It was directed by Tommy Tune, choreographed by Thommie Walsh, starred Raúl Juliá with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Arthur Kopit. The 2003 Broadway revival of NINE received eight Tony Award nominations and won two, including Best Revival of a Musical. Swarovski crystals have featured on sets and Hollywood stars in previous films such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany's and more recently Moulin Rouge, Chicago, James Bond Die Another Day, Ocean's Thirteen, Dreamgirls and The Young Victoria. |
